How do I activate my tour?

After booking, you'll receive instructions by email and via WhatsApp/SMS. First download the app and create an account. Then add the tour to your account via the link in your instructions. Your tour will be ready to go right away.

Can I preview the tour beforehand?

Yes. In the app you'll find a preview of every tour, so you know exactly what to expect.

Are entrance tickets to attractions included?

No — it's an outdoor route past the city's most beautiful spots, so entrance tickets aren't included. The stories about the attractions are of course all there.

Where does the tour start and end?

The start and end points are clearly marked in the app, along with the route and all stops.

I haven't received any instructions. What now?

First check your spam folder. Nothing there? Send us a message byemailorWhatsAppand we'll resend the information.

Tech on the go
Why does the app ask for my location ("always allow")?

The app uses your location to start stories automatically as soon as you reach a sight — even when your screen is off or the app is running in the background. We only use your location for this, nothing else.

Does the app use a lot of battery or data?

GPS does use some battery, so start your day with a full charge or bring a power bank for longer tours. If you've downloaded the tour in advance, data usage on the go is minimal.

Does the app work offline?

Yes, mostly. Download the tour in advance (on Wi-Fi, for example) and you'll need little to no internet on the go. GPS also works without an internet connection.

What if my GPS is poor?

In narrow streets or between tall buildings, GPS can sometimes be less accurate. You can then choose to start the stories manually — also handy if you prefer to stay in control. The best experience remains automatic playback: hands and eyes free, phone in your pocket.

The audio doesn't start automatically. What can I do?

Check that your location permission is set to "always allow" and that your sound is on. Still not working? Message or call our helpdesk and we'll help you right away.

I've forgotten my password. How do I reset it?

Tap "Forgot password" on the login screen and follow the instructions in the email you receive.

The app freezes or crashes. What now?

Close the app completely and reopen it. If that doesn't help, restart your phone and check that you have the latest version of the app. Problem persists? Message or call our helpdesk.

Walking the tour
How long does a tour take?

That varies per city. The duration and distance are listed with every tour in the app. We recommend setting aside at least half a day — that gives you plenty of time to really enjoy all the stories.

Do I have to follow the route in a fixed order?

Yes, every tour has a fixed order. That way we can describe the route properly and tell stories that flow naturally into each other.

What if an attraction is closed or there are roadworks?

Unforeseen circumstances such as roadworks or a temporarily closed attraction can happen. Did it really get in your way, or is an attraction permanently closed? Get in touch — we're sure to find a solution.

Can I listen to a story again?

Yes, as often as you like. All stories remain available even after you've finished the tour.

Can I pause the tour and continue later?

Yes. Stop whenever you like for a coffee or lunch and pick the tour back up exactly where you left off. Even on another day.

Does the audio play automatically?

Yes. The app uses GPS to recognise where you are and starts the story automatically as soon as you arrive at a location. So you walk with your hands and eyes free and your phone in your pocket — the best way to experience the city.

What if I stray from the route or get lost?

No worries. The map in the app always shows you where you are. Visited stops change colour, so you can see at a glance where to pick the tour back up.

Can I read along with the stories?

Yes, the script for every story is available in the app. Handy if you prefer reading, or want to look something back up.

Credits & purchases
How long are my credits and tours valid?

Forever. Credits and purchased tours never expire and simply stay in your account.

Can I share a tour with a friend?

There's something even better: invite a friend to CityAppTour. If your friend creates an account and starts a tour, you both get a free credit.

Can I give a tour as a gift?

Yes, great idea! Credits aren't transferable, but gifting a tour is. In the app, choose "buy as a gift", enter the email address of the person you want to surprise and choose the language. If the recipient already has an account, the tour will appear in their library right away. If not, they'll receive an email inviting them to create an account.

I have a new phone. Have I lost my tours?

No. Your purchases are linked to your account, not your device. Log in on your new phone and your tours and credits will be right there.

How does the credit system work?

Each tour costs 1 credit. You buy credits in the app in three options: 1 credit for €7.99, 2 credits for €12.99 or 3 credits for €14.99. A credit unlocks the tour of your choice.

With multiple people
Can I do a tour with multiple people?

One purchase is valid for one account. Walking together? You can easily share one phone, or use a splitter with two sets of headphones. If everyone wants to use their own phone (for example in a different language), each person needs their own tour. Tip: invite each other via the app and you'll both earn a free credit.

Can I book tours for a group or company outing?

Absolutely. Buy the number of credits you need and hand out the tours yourself by buying them as gifts. Larger numbers? Get in touch and we'll be happy to help.

Do I need headphones?

They do give you the best experience, since your eyes and hands stay free — but they're not required. You can also simply hold the phone to your ear, like a phone call. That way you won't disturb anyone around you.

Language
Can I download a tour in a different language?

Yes. A tour is downloaded by default in the language you've chosen for the app. Want the tour in another language? Switch the app language via Settings > App Settings and download the tour again. You won't have to pay again, of course: every purchased tour can be downloaded in all languages this way.

Can I change the app language?

Yes. The app is available in 8 languages: Dutch, English, German, French, Spanish, Portuguese, Italian and Polish. You can switch languages via Settings > App Settings.

My city isn't listed. Can I request one?

Of course, any time! We're always on the lookout for new, interesting places to explore and describe. Send us a message with your suggestion.

Which cities are available?

You'll find the complete, up-to-date selection in the app. We regularly add new cities.

Can I get a refund?

If you booked through an external party, their policy applies. Did you buy your tour directly from CityAppTour? With a good reason, you can always get your money back — just get in touch.
