Things to do in Antwerp

Besides the many well-known tourist attractions, City App Tour also introduces you to the lesser-known but no less breathtaking, scenic and historical places in this Burgundian city. With a self-guided audio tour you can enjoy the stories of your personal audio guide at your own pace.

Historic center
The historic center of Antwerp is actually a big open-air museum. This is the beating heart of the city. The most famous part of historic Antwerp is undoubtedly the ‘Grote Markt’. If you haven't seen it, you haven't seen Antwerp. The monumental guild houses and the imposing city hall and the Brabofountain are the main eye-catchers of Antwerp's most famous square. Another eye-catcher is the Cathedral of Our Lady, an iconic Gothic church.

The little Island
Het Eilandje is a neighbourhood that combines much of the best of Antwerp: good food, relaxed living around the water and two of the city's finest museums, The Museum Aan de Stroom (MAS) and the Red Star Line Museum. This is where epicureans come to stroll on sunny days and enjoy a nice snack or drink on the terrace. The sunset over the curve of the Scheldt should not be missed.

Markets
Markets have been held in Antwerp for ages. Some of these markets are known across the country and are even a reason to come to Antwerp especially for them. The Vogeltjesmarkt, held every Sunday (including holidays) on and around the Theaterplein is perhaps the most famous. The days when mainly birds and poultry were sold here are almost gone. It has become primarily an atmospheric commodity market that receives thousands of visitors. On Saturdays, an Exotic Market is held at this same spot. This is the perfect time to buy all kinds of exotic ingredients, snacks and drinks. On Friday, it's time for the Friday Market. Here you can, among other things, participate in old furniture auctions.

The annual Christmas Market is also worth mentioning. The historic centre of Antwerp turns into a cosy Christmas village where you can buy typical Christmas products and delicacies in the richly decorated stalls.

Shopping
In a vibrant fashion city, you will off course find the nicest clothing stores. Stroll around and be surprised by the windows of the big brands. Or shop at the small stores of young up-and-coming designers. Antwerp has four major shopping zones: The Historic Centre, The Fashion District, The Station District and De Meir, the most visited shopping street in the country.

With the help of a self-guided audio tour, you won't miss a thing, enjoy special stories and get to the most beautiful places we have carefully selected for you.
